Expressions using “FANCY”

Today we also had this expression “Do you fancy” meaning “Would you like to have”. This is used to make suggestions during socialising and it is also used to make invitations.

  • “Do you fancy lunch” = Would you like to have lunch with me?

You can also shorten this to “Fancy lunch?”..

It is used mostly in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and Ireland.

  • Fancy a pint? (Will we go for a beer together?)
  • Fancy a coffee? (Can I get you a coffee / Can I buy you a coffee?
