Today we talked about parents’ (Bildung). You mentioned that your dad is not a big reader (as he uses the same I was wearing today) but it doesn’t really matter as your parents are both smart people and still (zu recht gekommen) in life. Your mom is a person who always finds another way as you said. You also mentioned that your grandmother was a mastermind even though she had no formal schooling at all. All quite intuitive and (klug). Her family were (Bauer) and lived up the mountains. Your dad and aunt were sent to boarding school (Internat) for that reason.
Sorry I got totally mixed up and completely forgot that your brother got married this year already and it only just (gerade daran gedacht) later that it was he who married the Polish girl. You said that she was also born in Germany so they really have more (gemeinsam) that not in common. You also said that your have the feeling that you are maybe a bit more Greek than your brother in some ways. You mentioned that your parents’ influence (Einfluß) growing up was great. Parents set a strong (Vorbild)
Finally I asked you what does it really mean to be Greek. You said that families are very close knit (eng) like in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Grandmothers tend to feed their grandchildren and children until they can’t eat anymore and you mentioned that your grandmother used to always ask you what you had for lunch. So food is really important. You told me about the “uzerias” where people go just to drink uzo. I told you about how the local guy here always gives me loads (eine menge) of it. It’s a potent (stark) drink you said not only because of the amount of alcohol it has but also because of its ingredients (zutaten).
